The Velvet Underground and Ebay
One man's junk is another man's treasure
The Velvet U.'s first music on disk - someone paid I think 75 cents for it at a garage sale couple years ago - was just sold over Ebay for 150,000 some dollars. (Hopefully the buyer will make it available on CD to us fans). The Velvets are kind of an aquired taste, or, if you will, the ultimate cult group. It's been said that anyone who saw the Velvets in their time - late 60s early 70s - went out and formed their own group. The history is very interesting, a mix of the worst (best) kind of popular radio songs with the down-and-dirtiness of post-Beat poetry and the open-ended dissonance of avant-guarde classical music. Of course if the first disk of the Stones or Beatles were found it would sell in the multi-million range not hunderd thousand range. Anyway if you havent heard their first record, give it a try.
